Morrowind and other Elder Scrolls game links

  1. The Elder Scrolls
Bethesda's official Elder Scrolls site, formerly with patches, information and official plugins for Morrowind, but now showing only a page full of screenshots. This is probably because Morrowind is sold by Steam, which provides patches and extras in the download.

  2. The Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages: Morrowind
A fan wiki about Morrowind and its many characters, with screenshots. Also provides links to some vital mods, like Psychodog's Better Bodies, and Developer Mods, (co-)created by Morrowind's developers, a number of them dating from 2023. Not bad, for a game from around 2000.

  3. Nexus Mods - Morrowind Mods
This repository of mods for many games replaces Planet Elder Scrolls, the Elric of Melnibone page, Morrowind Modding History and Great House Fliggerty as the keeper of mods when their creators' personal sites disappear. Formerly known as TESNexus. Previously, it was necessary to have a (free) account to download any file over 2MB; fortunately, the Portrait of Crassius Curio (painted by a Russian artist, then processed into a mod) is under the size limit. Apart from this free account, a paid premium account, that helps support the server, allows more and faster downloads, ad-free. I don't know if downloading requires an account these days, but exceeded the allowed bandwidth just trying to find out by reading the FAQ.

  4. Morrowind Modding History Preservation Project - Quests
One of four pages on Nexus Mods preserving the mods once hosted by Morrowind Modding History, which itself preserved mods from Planet Elder Scrolls, Eric of Melnibone and other sites. The mods were painstakingly collected and sorted into four categories: Birthsigns, Books, Models and Textures, Quests. Each category page links to the three others. Apparently each page bundles its mods into one huge download.

  5. GameFront
Information/download site for many games including Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim. I can't link directly to the Morrowind page, so click on Mods and then search for Morrowind. Has some essential Morrowind mods - notably, the Visual Pack, Better Bodies, Morrowind Comes Alive - and the Bloodmoon Patch.

  6. The Elder Scrolls - Television Tropes and Idioms
What recurring themes ("tropes") can be found in the Elder Scrolls games.

  7. The Morrowind Modding Wiki
A relatively recent collection of how-to guides.

  8. Emma's Elder Scrolls Site
Companion mods! Beautiful face packs and her own NPC Replacer to give NPCs unique faces using these packs. Also mods from Kateri (Ashlander companion Julan), Grumpy (author of the customizable companion script), Vorwoda (Decius and Hippolyta) and others, and the joint project "Children of Morrowind". Little Orcs, cute! One of the few fansites that's still up.

  9. Sabregirl's Morrowind Mods
This is the site for people who love beast races and especially custom beast races. Here I downloaded Better Bodies for Beasts, which is not in the Better Bodies package. Another fansite that's still up.

  10. Calislahn.com: Elder Scrolls
Mods and tutorials for Morrowind and Oblivion; home of the portable bedroll. Another site that's still up. Any mods not hosted by this site are linked from the defunct Morrowind Modding History, and should be looked for at Nexus Mods.

  11. BTB's Morrowind Mod List (Wayback Machine)
A list of must-have mods, focused on replacements and fixes, with screenshots. I love the way this page is written. It is referenced by A Morrowind Mod List, which is text-only. Kept for information, the mods themselves must be searched for at Nexus Mods.

  12. Telesphoros' List o'Mods (WayBack Machine)
A text-only list Morrowind mods, very extensive and well organized. A good place to find out about all the mods out there, although the download links died before the site did; look for the mods at Nexus Mods. But there's more on this site: Argent's Morrowind Tech Page, Morrowind Mod User Tool List, and Starting Out With Mods 1.1. In all, a treasure trove of information.

  13. Modding on a $0 budget (Wayback Machine)
A list of freeware that can be used to make Morrowind mods, mostly paint and 3D modelling. Purely informative, as most links will be broken.

  14. LizTail Studios (WayBack Machine)
Under Games, this site had an alternative (both "clean" and graphically nude) to Better Bodies for Beasts: New Beast Bodies, and the Unique Shadow Pack. These have changed textures as well as meshes. The Morrowind Animation Kit, known as "LizTail's Animation Kit", was hosted by Morrowind Modding History. The relevant downloads can now be found at Nexus Mods, these links are purely informative.

  15. Tommy Khajiit's hideout (Wayback Machine)
Of course this site has been around for a long time, but I noticed it just recently for its "make-your-own" kits, to make your own custom paintings and wall hangings. It also has some useful guides. Links to downloads on other sites may be broken, but this preserved site may help to find those downloads at Nexus Mods.

  16. Morrowind.BonusWeb.cz - Czech fansite (Wayback Machine)
In Czech, but I found some quirky plugins like "Daughters of Almilia" and "Creeper's Pad" under "Download/Pluginy". All download links and many image links are now broken, but "Codex/Bestiar" opens a nicely illustrated page about creatures in Morrowind. Also has pages on Arena, Daggerfall and Oblivion.

  17. Morrowind-Oblivion: Skyrim Page (Wayback Machine)
An update of the earlier Morrowind-Oblivion page, it has the maps, mods, utilities and many sumptuous screenshots of the old page, with added Skyrim content. The download links are broken; search for the mods at Nexus Mods.

  18. Sorcha Ravenlock's Morrowind (Wayback Machine)
Included for the porcelain white and blue retextures of Morrowind architecture. The download links are broken, but her mods can be found at Nexus Mods.

  19. OpenMW
An open-source game engine that aims to replace Morrowind.exe so that owners of a Morrowind CD can play its game contents on Windows, Linux and Mac, with no Steam account or CD in the drive. A work in progress when I first discovered it, but now superior to the original.
