AK heads

Last uploaded: 25-12-2005 (better pale textures: 01-01-2009)

The AK heads were made for two animes that start with an A but, as the mesh code starting with CAA was already in use, have a K in them somewhere. In both, the faces are elongated ovals, with pointed chins and long sharp noses. As this batch was started on last, I'd sorted out naming issues, meaning that i. there are no older, misnamed versions of these files, ii. the identifiers are consistent, iii. in keeping with the relatively gender-neutral model of anime character heads, the meshes have gender code U, and the same mesh is referenced by "male" and "female" CMX files. Since anime heads also tend to have child-head proportions, the child heads are the adult heads shrunk, although some head models are suitable for teens at best. The numbers 0 to 9 are all double heads; the letters A to J are single versions of these heads so I could use the meshes for characters that don't need an extra hair mesh, without needing double-width texture files.

All AK heads were uploaded in 12-2004 as bases for characters that needed skinning, but after starting on skins for the "single" heads I found that for the first set of AK heads, the negative UV coordinates - the ones that cause the texture to wrap around the back of the mesh - didn't correspond with the matching positive coordinates, and that this applied to the double AG heads too. For "double" meshes this doesn't matter as the back of the head is covered by a hair mesh, but the "single" meshes showed an overlap on the back of the head. It couldn't be helped: the single meshes had to have their UV maps tweaked, and for consistency's sake the doubles were adjusted as well. Then I found that the second set of AK heads the nose and chin coordinates were a little off, and tweaked those too. That's why all AK heads been re-uploaded in 12-2005 for what's hopefully their last update.

These heads were made to provide a base for skinning characters from Ai no Kusabi and anime with similar chara design: Darkside Blues, Juuni Kokuki and I'm sure there are more. This style has smaller eyes and more visible nostrils than most. There are three models: long, round and normal, each with a smooth forehead version and a hair ridge version. These are the single heads.

See above. These are the double heads, meaning, the texture needs to be twice as wide. I didn't make separate base textures for these: simply take the base textures for the single versions and paste them into a white rectangle measuring 256x128 pixels, making sure the selection is lined up against the left side.

These heads were made as a base for skinning characters in AIKa, although, being single, they're only useful for characters that don't need separate hair meshes (and most of them do). For model descriptions, see below.

The basic head shapes for AIKa, a series in which most characters have concave noses and receding chins. Models: long (Hagen), medium (Aika and most older females, including Nina), very round (young characters, like Rion and the dolt from the second series) and square-chinned (Gust, and businessman types). These are the double heads for added hair meshes.
