The Hague Moerwijk

Moerwijk is also one of those places I only know because a train stops there. Why I ever got off at this station - since I don't live, study, work or change trains there - I can't remember. It is also one of those places where I wouldn't want to live, study or work, or change trains if I can help it. Still, having crawled out of the dark hole that was the station for some air and sunlight, I saw some curious architecture worth photographing.

The inside of the station. Yes, it really is that dark.

A look at the balustrade overlooking the platforms suggests that this might not be your run-of-the-mill minor railway station, construction-wise.

And, indeed, it is not.

Following the bikes parked all the way around, one sees more of the same.

This would seem to be the old story: a "modern" station with nasty high and half-high blocks of buildings around it.

But the park that suddenly jumps into view when one emerges from the station makes an impression of space rarely found in this overpopulated country.
