BAG0 - catsuits with heels

Oh no, you may cry, not another B300FAfit mesh with heels for that slinky Catwoman look! Actually, I was looking for a male mesh with heels, half-high ones to be precise, which unlike female meshes are practically nonexistent; and how many child meshes with heels are there?

As the above implies, I was really looking for heels of various heights for those spandex suits and silly hero outfits anime characters like to wear. And since a simple change in heel height, with no significant difference in the texture map, should not require a different mesh number for each heel model, I thought I would, like the meshers that had gone before me, use B300 and call it "B300_heels[n]" or something. However, I needed heels for practically any body type except Fit, and although the Fat and Fit B300 meshes were suitable, the B300 Skn ones were not. So for those I used the S402FASkn mesh and a warpfile plus some fine-tuning for the MASkn version. Which meant that a new mesh number was needed. So I labelled the whole family of heel meshes "BAG0", Body mesh number 0 for the Anime show Gatchaman, mother of all silly outfit series.

I then drew up five heel heights I might need: totally flat, normal sole height, cowboy bootheel height, half-high heels and really high heels, and numbered the elevated heels 1 to 4. Since the body mesh itself doesn't get any taller, the height added by the heel is subtracted from the calf, as a result of which the ankles of heel height 4 look quite strained despite being under slightly raised knees. Next, I took all basic body meshes and added two insets to the heels, a big one for square heels and a small one for narrow heels, and pulled the heel vertices up from the insets to create abovementioned four heel types in wide and narrow version. Not the most elegant model, but in the not very high-resolution game the result looks fairly convincing. Then, as pointed toes were another seventies feature eagerly adopted by anime shows and now again completely in fashion, I provided both flat and heeled meshes with pointed toes.

Since "halfhighheelsplustoes" is too long an identifier for a filename that's supposed to work on a Mac, I then came up with the following naming system: U for normal toes, V for pointed toes, O for wide heels, L for narrow heels (or no letter for flat soles), and the numbers 01 to 04, making an identifier of 3 to 4 characters.

Having "heeled" all standard male, female and child meshes, the last step was making custom body versions: my own creations and the SUM body type which was invented by another mesher. These absolutely require dress style sets (Nude/Swimsuit/Pyama etc. bodies) to be used in the game, or they'll crash it. The dress styles are separate downloads and can be found on the Skins and meshes page.

All images shown below were made in SimPose using the standard Maxis Hero textures and the default heads and hands. These are a bit small for the SUM meshes, but I couldn't be bothered to add enlarged ones. Each zipfile contains all heel/toe combinations for one body type.

Note on the 29-03-2006 update: finally trying skins on these meshes, I found a texture map fault in the nude FAFit mesh which persisted in all derived meshes - swimsuit meshes, HD+ skinny swimsuit meshes, "heroine" mesh, B300 mesh and the BAG0, BAG2 and BAK0 FAFit and FASkn meshes I'd made off them. Ever notice how the FAFit and FASkn heroine outfits have boots that are pointed at the rim, while the FAFat boot rim is flat? That's because the UV points under the knee have been hoisted up. The graphic above shows the old situation (right leg) and the corrected UVs (left leg).

Note on the 30-05-2007 update: MABBS and MCBYT added, slimmed the waists of CSK/CSM.

16-06-2007: finally, all body types done that I ever hope to need.

12-04-2008: hopefully FINAL update. There was a mistake in some 02-heels that had gone undetected for four years. So I used the opportunity to fix some UV niggles too.

15-03-2009: or maybe this will be the final update? Vertex fault in SPINE joint found in the higher CBL heels. Fixed BYT waist while I was at it.
